Regional Events Scheme an opportunity for event organisers

The Pilbara Development Commission is encouraging local event organisers and community groups to apply for Tourism Western Australia’s 2027-28 Regional Events Scheme (RES), which has officially opened its latest funding round.

The RES is a vital initiative aimed at supporting the growth of small and developing regional events that drive visitation, stimulate local economic activity, and contribute to the unique vibrancy and identity of regional communities across Western Australia. By investing in these emerging events, the program helps build strong regional event calendars, encourages overnight visitation, and creates fantastic opportunities to showcase the unique experiences our beautiful regions have to offer.

A total of $1.4 million in funding is available for this round, offering grants between $5,000 and $40,000 per financial year to eligible events.

This pool includes $250,000 specifically dedicated to the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES). The RAES focuses on supporting events that showcase and celebrate Aboriginal culture through strong Aboriginal leadership and community participation—an area of immense significance and opportunity across the Pilbara.

Pilbara Development Commission Chief Executive Simon Taylor said local events were a cornerstone of community identity and regional attraction.

"Whether you are managing an emerging cultural festival, a local sporting event, or a community celebration, this scheme provides the structural support needed for Pilbara-based event coordinators to take their initiatives to the next level," Mr Taylor said.

"It's a great initiative from Tourism Western Australia and we encourage Pilbara-based event organisers to make the most of this opportunity."
