
BACKGROUND
Royalties for Regions
Royalties for Regions is a Western Australian Government initiative, launched by the Minister for Regional Development, Hon Brendon Grylls MLA, in December 2008, that will see the equivalent of 25 per cent of the State's annual mining and onshore petroleum royalties revenue reinvested in regional communities.
This is an investment by the State Government over and above current and budgeted expenditure to assist regional communities shape their future and plan for longer term sustainable development.
Pilbara Regional Grants Scheme
The Regional Grants Scheme is a program of Royalties for Regions that aims to improve economic and community infrastructure and services in regional Western Australia. The Scheme highlights one of the central themes of Royalties for Regions - putting money back into communities for projects and services that are determined and driven by regional communities.
The Scheme's broad objectives are to:
Increase capacity for local strategic planning and decision-making.
Retain and build the benefits of regional communities.
Promote relevant and accessible local services.
Assist communities to plan for a sustainable economic and social future.
Enable communities to expand social and economic opportunities.
Assist regional communities to prosper through increased employment opportunities, business and industry development opportunities, and improved local services.
The Pilbara Regional Grant Scheme is administered by the Pilbara Development Commission.
LATEST UPDATE
The 2009/2010 round of the Regional Grants Scheme was launched by the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Brendon Grylls MLA in Bunbury on the 20th October 2009. Each of the nine development commissions will receive $5 million to distribute within their regions.
In the Pilbara, a total of $3.6 million will be allocated to contestable grants - $3.5 million will be available through the Pilbara Regional Grants Scheme and $100,00 through a Small Grants Program.
The current round of contestable funding for the period ending 30 June 2010, opened on the 20th October and will close at 4:30pm on Wednesday, 10 February 2010.
Applicants seeking grants up to and including $10,000 may do so through the Regional Grants Small Grants Program. Funds are available on application to the Pilbara Development Commission at any time during 2009/2010. This Program will operate until the available funds have been allocated.
