Spotlight on the Pilbara

Spotlight Header

BACKGROUND

In 2006 the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) commenced a project to create a series of regional "Spotlight" reports for the Development Commission regions in WA. The principal aim of this project is to bring together information from a multitude of sources which can be used to aid in the planning and delivery of services to regional WA. The Pilbara region was selected as the first in the series of “Spotlights” and the Commission has been working in partnership with the ABS to develop the Pilbara website.

Spotlight MenuThe Commission and the ABS determined the final list of regional indicators to report on, following a comprehensive community and government consultation process. Indicators are detailed in three broad categories being Social, Economic & Environment. Each category is reported on in the following characteristics:
• Community
• Education & Training
• Health
• Law & Order
• Recreation & Arts
• Business, Infrastructure
• Housing
• Tourism
• Transport and
• Environmental Impacts
