Regional Migration

BACKGROUND

PassportThe Pilbara Development Commission acts as a Regional Certifying Body (RCB) for the region in relation to the certification of Temporary Business (Long Stay) sub class 457 visas (457 visa) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme permanent visas (RSMS).

Both the RSMS and 457 visas can assist employers in Australia, who are unable to fill skilled positions from the local labour market. Under these programs, employers can nominate and sponsor workers from overseas to fill full-time vacancies. The RSMS is a permanent migration program, whilst the 457 visa is a temporary program allowing for up to a 4 year stay. The 457 visa may also act as an introductory measure to permanent migration under the RSMS or other applicable programs.

The Commission's role is to assess and certify the RSMS sponsorship applications and 457 visa nominations before they are lodged with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). Certification is granted once the necessary conditions - as specified by the rules of the RSMS and 457 Visa - are satisfied.

The Commission undertakes an advocacy role for immigration inquiries, to assist business sponsors and employees in the region. The Commission also assists DIAC with its regional visits which include information seminars, workshops and private consultations with stakeholders and community members throughout the Pilbara.

DIAC bThe Commission does not offer job searching, job placement and related services and is not able to assist directly with finding a sponsor. However, State Migration Centre website is a helpful resource in searching for jobs and sponsors and it also provides information on other skilled visa options in Western Australia.

LATEST UPDATE

Following on from DIAC’s successful regional visit in May 2009, the Commission is in discussions with the agency to arrange an additional visit for later this year.

Please contact the Commission for specific regional requirements for visa certification or further information regarding regional visits.
