Pilbara Women's Network

PWNBACKGROUND

In October 2008 the Pilbara Development Commission hosted the Pilbara Women’s Conference “Lifestyle, Leadership and Learning”. The three day event which attracted a number of highly successful keynote speakers was well attended and provided professional and personal development as well as networking opportunities for women in the region.

The Conference was a resounding success with delegates calling for more similar events and the establishment of a mechanism that support opportunities for women across the region to exchange ideas, interact, share experiences and expertise and build on the relationships developed at the event.

As a result, the Commission established the Pilbara Women’s Network database and online E-newsletter which is designed to connect all women across the region. The Network includes a membership contact database and quarterly newsletters that will include events, articles and information relevant to Pilbara women as well as some fun tips and stories.  It will also provide members with links to similar organisations such as the very successful RRR Network which was established in 1996 to recognise, promote and expand the contribution women from rural, remote and regional areas of Western Australia make to their communities.

To further celebrate and acknowledge the important contribution women make to Pilbara communities, the Commission will also host Women's Forums to further develop and build on the Network as well as providing an opportunity to discuss issues that are relevant to women in the region.

LATEST UPDATE

The Commission launched the first issue of the quarterly Network newsletter in March 2009 with the latest edition recently sent out to Members.  All Pilbara women are encouraged to join the network and share their stories and experiences.

The Commission also hosted the first Women’s Forum in Karratha in September 2009.  This event was attended by over 100 women and was a great success with three local well credentialed women as guest presenters.
