BACKGROUND
The Kids Matter® Family Day Care program is an initiative of the Commission, developed with the assistance of the Department for Communities, to increase the number of licensed child care places available across the Pilbara in the shortest timeframe possible, while promoting Family Day Care as a viable business. Program partners include the resource sector, small business and the four Pilbara local government authorities.
The Kids Matter® Family Day Care program provides assistance to interested people through the process of setting up a licensed family day care in their home. A free Information Kit is made available which outlines what is required to set up a family day care and connect interested people with the right agencies to make it as easy as possible.
Thanks to the Programs sponsors, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and the North West Shelf Venture, cash incentives between $1,500 and $2,250 are made available to those who successfully complete the licensing process through the Program. Other incentives from local businesses are also available.
To date the program has been successful in assisting 19 carers set up a licensed family day care business in the region, each being able to care for up to seven children each, potentially creating 133 child care places.
LATEST UPDATE
Commission project staff are currently reviewing the Kids Matter Program and updating its content. The Commission will be offering the Program electronically through the Commission website with all information available to download and active links to relevant websites.
The Commission is also seeking continued support from local industry sponsors to enable the incentive payment to be offered through the program.
