Port Hedland Enhancement Scheme

BACKGROUND

The Port Hedland Enhancement Scheme (PHES) is an $8m joint partnership between the State Government and BHP Billiton Iron Ore, with the support of the Town of Port Hedland to enhance the lifestyle of the Port Hedland community by improving the visual and physical amenity of the town.

The Sate Government and BHP Billiton are contributing $4.5 million each over a three year period towards the Scheme. The Pilbara Development Commission is managing the Scheme on behalf of the joint partners. 

Current Port Hedland Enhancement Scheme 2008 projects included:

    Foreshore Redevelopment 
    Upgrade of existing recreational areas; Cemetry Beach Park, Pretty Pool Park and Civic Centre Gardens.
    Installation of Seating and Shade Shelters along Sutherland Street, Port Hedland
    Bus Shelter replacements
    Purchase of a Transportable Performing Arts Stage
    CBD and Arts Precinct Redevelopment
    Upgrade of Port Hedland Cultural and Heritage Trail
    Port Hedland Visitors Centre Upgrade

As a result of extensive community consultation and the outcomes of the Department of Planning and Infrastructure "Enquiry by Design" process in Port Hedland, a number of projects were identified to be developed under the Scheme.
