PDC lightThe Pilbara Development Commission (PDC) is a Western Australian Government agency with offices in Port Hedland and Karratha. The PDC was established as a Statutory Authority under the Regional Development Commissions Act in 1994. It is one of nine development commissions established under this Act by the Government of Western Australia.

OUR VISION

The Pilbara region will grow as a dynamic economic area with well developed social facilities, which will offer growth opportunities whilst retaining its particular appeal as a great place to live and visit.

OUR MISSION

The Pilbara Development Commission is a progressive, strategically focused and effective leader in the social and economic development of the Pilbara. It works successfully to inform, partner with and advocate for Pilbara communities in relation to regional priorities - in accordance with the expectations of its stakeholders.

OBJECTIVES & FUNCTIONS

The Commission's role is to coordinate and promote the economic development of the Pilbara, specifically to:

  • Develop and broaden the economic base of the region;
  • Identify infrastructure services to promote economic and social development within the region;
  • Provide information and advice to promote business development with the region;
  • Seek to ensure the general standard of and access to government services in the region are comparable to those in metropolitan areas;
  • Generally take steps to encourage, promote, facilitate and monitor the economic development of the region.

To achieve these objectives the Commission is to:

  • Facilitate co-ordination between relevant statutory bodies and State Government agencies
  • Co-operate with representatives of industry and commerce, employer and employee organisations, education and training institutions and other sections of the community within the region
  • Identify the opportunities for investment in the region and encourage that investment
  • Identify the infrastructure needs of the region, and encourage the provision of that infrastructure in the region
  • Co-operate with Departments of the State and Commonwealth and local governments, in order to promote equitable delivery of services within the region

The Commission employs 13 staff, including 6 project staff. The Commission is a statutory authority governed by a Board. The composition of the Board is determined by the Regional Development Commissions Act and includes 3 local government representatives, 3 community appointments, 3 ministerial appointments and the Chief Executive Officer.

The Commission and its Board reports to the State Government through the Minister for Regional Development, Hon Brendon Grylls MLA Minister for Regional Development; Lands; Minister assisting the Minister for Transport; Minister assisting the Minister for State Development

The Commission receives an annual allocation from the State Government budget to carry out approved activities.
